Speaking with Respect While Fasting

SUMMARY: When fasting, one should not speak evil or ignorant words and if someone speaks to them in an ignorant manner, they should reply that they are fasting.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "When anyone of you is fasting, let him not utter evil or ignorant speech. If anyone speaks to him in an ignorant manner, let him say: 'I am fasting.’"

If someone speaks to us in an ignorant manner, we should simply reply that we are fasting. This teaches us the importance of being mindful of our words and actions even when engaging in religious activities such as fasting. It also reminds us to be respectful towards others regardless of their behavior towards us and to always strive for good character even during difficult times such as Ramadan.
