The Seven Parts of Prostration

SUMMARY: Prostration is an act of worship in which seven parts of the body are involved.

It was narrated from 'Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib that he heard the Prophet say: "When a person prostrates, seven parts of his body prostrate with him: His face, his two hands, his two knees, and his two feet".

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform prostration with mindfulness and devotion.

EXPLANATIONS:
Prostration is an important part of Islamic worship, and it involves more than just the physical act. According to this hadith, when a person prostrates, seven parts of his body prostrate with him - his face, two hands, two knees and two feet. This means that when we perform sujud or prostration during prayer or other acts of worship, we should be mindful that our entire being is involved in the act - not just our physical bodies but also our hearts and minds. We should strive to make sure that all seven parts are engaged in the act so that it can be truly meaningful and beneficial for us spiritually.
