Compassion and Mercy for Prisoners of War

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) showed mercy and compassion to the prisoners of war from Badr, even though they were mean people.

Narrated Jubair bin Mut'im: The Prophet talked about war prisoners of Badr saying, "Had Al-Mut'im bin Adi been alive and interceded with me for these mean people, I would have freed them for his sake".
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ قَالَ فِي أُسَارَى بَدْرٍ ‏ "‏ لَوْ كَانَ الْمُطْعِمُ بْنُ عَدِيٍّ حَيًّا، ثُمَّ كَلَّمَنِي فِي هَؤُلاَءِ النَّتْنَى، لَتَرَكْتُهُمْ لَهُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (ﷺ) compassion and mercy towards prisoners of war from Badr. Even though these people were mean, he still showed them kindness. He said that if Al-Mut'im bin Adi was alive at the time, he would have freed them for his sake. This shows us how important it is to show mercy and compassion to others, even if they are not kind to us in return. It also teaches us that we should be grateful for those who help us in our times of need.
