Generosity of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) gave a grandmother and her son a sixth of their consumption while the son was alive.

'Abdullah bin Mas'ud said, about the grandmother along with her daughter: "The Messenger of Allah(S.A.W) gave the first grandmother, along with her son, a sixth for them to consume while her son was living".
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ، قال حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ فِي الْجَدَّةِ مَعَ ابْنِهَا إِنَّهَا أَوَّلُ جَدَّةٍ أَطْعَمَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ سُدُسًا مَعَ ابْنِهَا وَابْنُهَا حَىٌّ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ لاَ نَعْرِفُهُ مَرْفُوعًا إِلاَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ ‏.‏ - وَقَدْ وَرَّثَ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ الْجَدَّةَ مَعَ ابْنِهَا وَلَمْ يُوَرِّثْهَا بَعْضُهُمْ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the generosity of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). It is narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud that the Messenger of Allah gave a grandmother and her son a sixth for them to consume while her son was living, which shows his immense generosity towards those in need and his willingness to provide for them even when he himself had little resources available at his disposal. This hadith also teaches us that we should be generous with our resources and help those who are in need whenever possible as it is an act that will be rewarded by Allah Almighty on Judgment Day. Furthermore, this hadith also serves as an example for us to follow in our own lives; we should strive to emulate this example set by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A W).
