Umar's Fear of Referring to the Prophet

SUMMARY: Umar was worried that the man would refer to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) so he allowed him.

The tradition mention above has also been transmitted by Sa’id b. al-Musayyab through a different chain of narrators to the same effect. This version adds: so he ('Umar’) feared that he would refer to the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him); therefore he allowed him.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، بِمَعْنَاهُ زَادَ فَخَشِيَ أَنْ يَرْمِيَهُ، بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ فَأَجَازَهُ

This hadith speaks about how Umar was worried that a man would refer to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He feared that this man may not show enough respect and reverence for the Prophet and thus allowed him in order to prevent any disrespect from occurring. This hadith teaches us about how important it is to show respect for those who are more knowledgeable than us and also highlights Umar's fear of any disrespect being shown towards the Prophet. It also shows us how we should be careful when speaking about those who are more knowledgeable than us in order to avoid any form of disrespect or dishonor.
