Reciting Verses in the Mosque

SUMMARY: Umar was reminded of the Prophet's presence in the mosque when he saw Hassan reciting verses.

Sa'id said: Umar passed by Hassan when he was reciting verses in the mosque. He looked at him. Thereupon he said: I used to recite verses when there was present in it the one who was better than you (ie the Prophet).
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي خَلَفٍ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ، - الْمَعْنَى - قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ مَرَّ عُمَرُ بِحَسَّانَ وَهُوَ يُنْشِدُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَلَحَظَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ قَدْ كُنْتُ أُنْشِدُ وَفِيهِ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْكَ

Umar was passing by a mosque and noticed Hassan reciting verses from the Quran. This reminded him of when the Prophet Muhammad used to be present in that same mosque and recite verses from the Quran as well. Umar felt a sense of awe and respect for this moment as it brought back memories of his beloved Prophet. This hadith teaches us to always remember our beloved Prophet with love and respect whenever we are engaging in religious activities such as reciting verses from the Quran or visiting mosques. We should also strive to emulate his example by being kind, generous, humble and patient with others at all times.
