Sunan Abi Dawud 5015 (Book 43, Hadith 243) #25306
Defending the Prophet

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encouraged Hassan to defend him against those who spoke against him, and promised that the spirit of holiness (Gabriel) would be with Hassan while he did so.

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: The Messenger of Allah used to setup a pulpit in the mosque for Hassan who would stand on it and satirise those who spoke against the Messenger of Allah . The Messenger of Allah would say: The spirit of holiness (ie Gabriel) is with Hassan so long as he speaks in defense of the Messenger of Allah .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin tells us about how the Prophet Muhammad encouraged Hassan to defend him against those who spoke ill of him. He set up a pulpit in the mosque for Hassan to stand on and speak in defense of himself. The Prophet also promised that the spirit of holiness or Gabriel would be with Hassan while he did so. This hadith teaches us that we should always stand up for what is right and true even if it means defending someone else's honour or reputation. We should also have faith in God's protection when we do so as He will always be there to help us through difficult times.
