Sahih al-Bukhari 2622 (Book 51, Hadith 54) #2508
Avoiding Bad Examples and Taking Back Presents

SUMMARY: We should not follow bad examples and those who take back their presents are like dogs that swallow back their vomit.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet said, "The bad example is not for us. He who takes back his present is like a dog that swallows back its vomit".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow good examples & Keep your promises & Be generous & Be respectful towards others

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to avoid bad examples and to not take back our presents. He compared those who do so to a dog that swallows its own vomit. This is because it is disgusting for a person to take something they have already given away as if it was never given in the first place. It also shows a lack of respect for the other person as well as an inability to keep one's word or promises. This hadith teaches us that we should be honest in our dealings with others and keep our promises even if it means going out of our way or making sacrifices for them. We should also strive to set good examples for others by being kind, generous, and respectful towards them at all times.
