Sunan Abi Dawud 4585 (Book 41, Hadith 92) #24876
Forgiveness in Response to Injury

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that if someone bites you, you can remove your hand from their mouth without retaliation.

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by Ya'la b. Umayyah through a different chain of narrators. This version has: The Prophet said to the man bit him: If you wish that you give him control over your hand and he bites it, and then you drive it away from his mouth (you may do it). He imposed no retaliation for his teeth.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respond with kindness even when faced with difficult situations; Control your emotions; Forgive those who have wronged you; Remove your hand from their mouth without retaliation

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of forgiveness and mercy even when we are wronged or injured. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us that if someone bites our hand, we should not retaliate but instead remove our hand from their mouth without any further action. This is a lesson in self-control and mercy, as it is easy to become angry and seek revenge when we are hurt by another person. However, this hadith reminds us that it is better to forgive than to seek revenge or retribution for an injury done against us. It also teaches us the importance of controlling our emotions and responding with kindness even when faced with difficult situations.
