Sahih al-Bukhari 2425 (Book 44, Hadith 15) #2319
Standing Firm in Faith

SUMMARY: This hadith is about a man who refused to reject faith in Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) even when it meant he would not receive the money owed to him.

Narrated Khabbab: I was a blacksmith In the Pre-Islamic period of ignorance, and 'Asi bin Wail owed me some money. I went to him to demand it, but he said to me, "I will not pay you unless you reject faith in Muhammad". I replied, "By Allah, I will never disbelieve Muhammad till Allah let you die and then resurrect you". He said, "Then wait till I die and come to life again, for then I will be given property and offspring and will pay your right". So, thus revelation came: "Have you seen him who disbelieved in Our signs and yet says, 'I will be given property and offspring?' " (19:77)

QUICK LESSONS:
Stand firm on our beliefs no matter what the cost may be .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about Khabbab ibn al-Arat who was a blacksmith during the pre-Islamic period of ignorance. He was owed some money by 'Asi bin Wail but 'Asi refused to pay him unless he rejected faith in Prophet Muhammad. Khabbab showed great courage and patience by refusing to do so and instead said that he will never disbelieve in Prophet Muhammad until Allah let 'Asi die and then resurrect him. As a result of this incident, Allah revealed verse 19:77 which talks about those who disbelieve in His signs yet claim they will be given property and offspring. This hadith teaches us that we should always stand firm on our beliefs no matter what the cost may be as Allah will always reward those who are patient and steadfast on their faith. It also reminds us that we should never doubt or question Allah's power as He can bring back life from death whenever He wills it.
