Sunan Abi Dawud 2667 (Book 15, Hadith 191) #22957
Charity and Forbidding Mutilation

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encouraged people to give charity and forbade them from mutilating a slain person.

Narrated Samurah ibn Jundub: Al-Hayyaj ibn Imran ibn Husayn reported that a slave of Imran ran away. He took a vow to Allah that if he overpowers him, he will cut off his head. He then sent me (to Samurah ibn Jundub) to ask him about this question for him. I came to Samurah ibn Jundub and asked him. He said: The Messenger of Allah used to exhort us to give alms (sadaqah) and forbid us to mutilate (a slain). I then came to Imran ibn Husayn and asked him. He said: The Messenger of Allah used to exhort us to give alms (sadaqah) and forbid us to mutilate (a slain).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of charity and forbidding mutilation. It was narrated by Samurah ibn Jundub and Imran ibn Husayn who were both companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to encourage people to give alms or charity as an act of kindness towards others. He also used to forbid people from mutilating a slain person which means that they should not harm or hurt someone who has already been killed. This hadith teaches us that we should be kind towards others by giving charity when we can, but also that we should not hurt anyone even if they have done something wrong. We should always show mercy towards others no matter what their actions are.
