Sunan Abi Dawud 2434 (Book 14, Hadith 122) #22725
Balanced Fasting According to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to fast and not fast in a balanced manner, with the most fasting occurring in the month of Sha'ban.

Narrated 'Aishah, wife of Prophet : The Messenger of Allah used to fast to such an extent that we thought that he would never break his fast, and he would go without fasting to such an extent that we thought he would never fast. I never saw the Messenger of Allah fast a complete month except in Ramadan, and I never saw his fast more in any month than in Sha'ban.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Aishah tells us that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to practice fasting and abstaining from it in a balanced manner. He would fast for long periods of time but also take breaks from it. This is an important lesson for us as Muslims because it teaches us that moderation is key when practicing our faith. We should not overdo any religious practices or become too extreme with them; rather we should strive for balance and moderation. Furthermore, this hadith specifically mentions that the most fasting occurred during the month of Sha’ban which is just before Ramadan begins. This shows us how important it is to prepare ourselves spiritually before Ramadan so that we can make the most out of this blessed month when it arrives.
