Sahih al-Bukhari 2375 (Book 42, Hadith 23) #2272
Killing of She-Camels by Hamza bin 'Abdul-Muttalib

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was angered when he saw Hamza bin 'Abdul-Muttalib killing two she-camels that belonged to Ali bin Abi Talib.

Narrated Husain bin 'Ali: 'Ali bin Abi Talib said: "I got a she-camel as my share of the war booty on the day (of the battle) of Badr, and Allah's Messenger gave me another she-camel. I let both of them kneel at the door of one of the Ansar, intending to carry Idhkhir on them to sell it and use its price for my wedding banquet on marrying Fatima. A goldsmith from Bani Qainqa' was with me. Hamza bin 'Abdul-Muttalib was in that house drinking wine and a lady singer was reciting: "O Hamza! (Kill) the (two) fat old she camels (and serve them to your guests). So Hamza took his sword and went towards the two she-camels and cut off their humps and opened their flanks and took a part of their livers". (I said to Ibn Shihab, "Did he take part of the humps?" He replied, "He cut off their humps and carried them away") 'Ali further said, "When I saw that dreadful sight, I went to the Prophet and told him the news. The Prophet came out in the company of Zaid bin Haritha who was with him then, and I too went with them. He went to Hamza and spoke harshly to him. Hamza looked up and said, 'Aren't you only the slaves of my forefathers?' The Prophet retreated and went out. This incident happened before the prohibition of drinking".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek permission before taking something even if it belongs to your family members; Respect other's property rights; Follow Allah's laws no matter what power someone has over you; Show respect towards elders and people in authority over you .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the incident that happened between the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and his uncle, Hamza Bin Abdul Muttalab. It was narrated by Husain Bin Ali that Ali Bin Abu Talip got a she camel as part of the war booty on the day of Battle of Badr and the prophet gave him another one. He wanted to use them to carry Idhkhir which he intended to sell for his wedding banquet with Fatima. However, while they were at a house belonging to one of Ansar, they found out that Hamza was drinking wine and a lady singer was reciting a song about killing two fat old she camels for guests. So without asking permission from anyone, he took his sword and killed both camels cutting off their humps and taking part of their livers. When this news reached the prophet he went with Zaid Bin Harittha to confront him but when confronted with harsh words from the prophet, he replied back saying "Aren't you only slaves of my forefathers?" This incident happened before drinking alcohol became prohibited in Islam. The main lesson we can learn from this hadith is that we should not take things without permission even if it belongs to us or our family members because it is disrespectful towards others who own them or have rights over them as well as it shows lack of respect towards Allah's laws which are set in place for our own good even if we don't understand why at times . We should also remember not to disrespect people who are older than us or have higher authority than us because Allah will not be pleased with such behavior no matter how much power or authority someone has over us . Lastly, we should always seek permission before taking something even if it belongs to our family members so as not cause any harm or hurt feelings among those around us .
