Sunan Abi Dawud 1462 (Book 8, Hadith 47) #21754
The Best Surahs Ever Recited

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught Uqbah two of the best surahs ever recited and Uqbah was not pleased with them. When the Prophet finished his prayer, he asked Uqbah how he felt about them.

Narrated Uqbah ibn Amir: I was driving the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah during a journey. He said to me: Uqbah, should I not teach you two best surahs ever recited? He then taught me: "Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of the dawn," and "Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of men". He did not see me much pleased (by these two surahs). When he alighted for prayer, he led the people in the morning prayer and recited them in prayer. When the Messenger of Allah finished his prayer, he turned to me and said: O Uqbah, how did you see.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's teachings to his companion, Uqbah ibn Amir. During a journey, the Prophet asked him if he would like to learn two of the best surahs ever recited. He then taught him "Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of dawn" and "Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of men". After teaching him these two surahs, he asked how Uqbah felt about them after they were recited during prayer. This hadith teaches us that we should always be open to learning new things and that we should appreciate what we are being taught even if it does not seem interesting at first glance. It also shows us that it is important to take time out for prayer and reflection as this can help us gain a better understanding of what we have been taught or learned.
