Recitation of Surahs During Prayer

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) reciting Surah al-Qaf and Surah al-Waqi'a during the prayer on the day of sacrifice and on the breaking of fast.

'Ubaid Allah b. 'Abd Allah b. 'Utbah b. Mas'ud said: 'Umar b. al-Khattab asked Abu Waqid al-Laithi: What did the Messenger of Allah recite during the prayer on the day of sacrifice and on the breaking of the fast ? He replied: He recited at both of them Surah al-Qaf, "By the Glorious Quran" 50 and the Surah "The Hour is nigh" (54).
حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْمَازِنِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، سَأَلَ أَبَا وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيَّ مَاذَا كَانَ يَقْرَأُ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فِي الأَضْحَى وَالْفِطْرِ قَالَ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِيهِمَا ‏{‏ ق وَالْقُرْآنِ الْمَجِيدِ ‏}‏ وَ ‏{‏ اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to recite two surahs, namely Surah Al-Qaf and Surah Al-Waqi’a during his prayers on the day of sacrifice and on the breaking of fast. These two surahs are part of Quran which is a holy book for Muslims that contains teachings from God Almighty for mankind to follow in their lives. It is important for Muslims to recite these verses as it helps them remember God’s teachings and be mindful in their daily lives. Furthermore, it also serves as a reminder that one should always be grateful to God Almighty for all His blessings upon us no matter what situation we are in or what time it is; whether it be a special occasion like Eid or just an ordinary day where we break our fast after sunset or offer our prayers five times a day every single day without fail.
