Sunan Abi Dawud 443 (Book 2, Hadith 53) #20734
The Importance of Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) commanded the mu'adhdhin to call for prayer and led them in the morning prayer, even though they had slept abandoning the Fajr prayer.

'Imran b. Husain said: The Messenger of Allah was on his journey. They (the people) slept abandoning the Fajr prayer. They awoke by the heat of the sun. Then they travelled a little until the sun rose high. He (the Prophet) commanded the mu'adhdhin (one who called for prayer) to call for prayer. He then offered two rak'ahs of prayer (sunnah prayer) before the (obligatory) fajr prayer. Then he (the mu'adhdhin) announced for saying the prayer in congregation (ie he uttered iqamah). Then he led them in the morning prayer.

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform your daily obligations as Muslims even if it means waking up early or staying up late at night to do so; strive to perform congregational prayers whenever possible; obey Allah's commands without hesitation; manage your time wisely and punctually .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of prayer in Islam, especially salat al-fajr or dawn prayer. It is narrated by 'Imran b. Husain that when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was on a journey with his companions, they all fell asleep and missed their fajr prayers. When they awoke, it was already late and so he commanded his mu’adhdhin to call for prayer and then led them in two rak’ahs of sunnah prayers before leading them in their obligatory fajr prayers. This hadith teaches us that we should never miss our daily prayers no matter what situation we are in or how tired we may be; rather, we should strive to perform our obligations as Muslims even if it means waking up early or staying up late at night to do so. Additionally, this hadith also emphasizes the importance of performing congregational prayers whenever possible as it is more rewarding than praying alone at home or elsewhere.
