Sunan Abi Dawud 442 (Book 2, Hadith 52) #20733
Making Up Forgotten Prayers

SUMMARY: If someone forgets to pray or oversleeps, they should perform the prayer when they remember it and there is no other way to make up for it.

Anas b. Malik reported the Prophet as saying: If any one forgets a prayer or oversleeps, he should observe it when he remembers it ; there is no expiation for it except that.

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform prayers on time without forgetting them .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from Anas b. Malik teaches us that if we forget to pray or oversleep, we should perform the prayer when we remember it and there is no other way to make up for it. It is important that we take this teaching seriously as prayer is a fundamental part of our faith and relationship with Allah. We must strive to be consistent in our prayers so that we do not miss any of them, but if something does happen then this hadith reminds us of what action needs to be taken in order for us to make up for our mistake.

This hadith also teaches us about accountability and responsibility; even though Allah may forgive us for forgetting a prayer or oversleeping, He still expects us to take responsibility and make up for what was missed in order for us not only spiritually benefit from the act but also learn from our mistakes so that they are not repeated again in the future.
