QUICK LESSONS:
Abstain from consuming any type of substance or drink causing intoxication or drunkenness; Focus energy on activities bringing one closer to Allah such as prayer and charity .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Ibn 'Umar states that the Prophet Muhammad declared that all intoxicants are forbidden. This includes any type of substance or drink which causes intoxication or a state of drunkenness. This prohibition is based on the Quranic verse which states “O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan” [Quran 5:90 ]. Therefore it is clear that consuming any type of intoxicant is considered unlawful in Islam and should be avoided at all costs. Furthermore, this hadith serves as a reminder to Muslims to stay away from anything which can lead to intoxication and instead focus their energy on activities which will bring them closer to Allah such as prayer and charity.
