Prohibition of Khamr Revealed

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the prohibition of Khamr (alcohol) which was revealed when it was made from five things: grapes, wheat, barley, dates and honey.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "I heard 'Umar bin Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, on the Minbar of the Messenger of Allah SAW, say: 'The prohibition of Khamr was revealed when it was made from five things: From grapes, wheat, barley, dates and honey'."
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا، وَأَبِي، حَيَّانَ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، رضى الله عنه عَلَى مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّ الْخَمْرَ نَزَلَ تَحْرِيمُهَا وَهِيَ مِنْ خَمْسَةٍ مِنَ الْعِنَبِ وَالْحِنْطَةِ وَالشَّعِيرِ وَالتَّمْرِ وَالْعَسَلِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of alcohol or khamr in Islam. It was narrated by Ibn 'Umar that he heard Umar bin Al-Khattab on the Minbar of Prophet Muhammad [SAW] say that the prohibition of khamr was revealed when it was made from five things - grapes, wheat, barley, dates and honey. This means that consuming any type of alcoholic beverage made from these ingredients is prohibited in Islam. The hadith also teaches us to be mindful and aware of our actions as Muslims since we are responsible for following Allah's commands. We should strive to live a life according to Islamic teachings so that we can be rewarded in this life and hereafter.
