Pride and Garments

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) warned against dragging one's garment out of pride, and Abu Bakr was reassured that he was not doing it out of pride.

It was narrated from Salim, from his father, that: The Messenger of Allah SAW said: "Whoever drags his garment out of pride, Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection". Abu Bakr said: "O Messenger of Allah, one side of my Izar slips unless I pay attention to it". The Prophet SAW: "You are not one of those who do that out of pride".

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) warned against dragging one's garment out of pride. He said that Allah will not look at someone who does this on the Day of Resurrection. Abu Bakr asked if he was exempt from this warning since his Izar slips unless he pays attention to it. The Prophet reassured him that he is not one of those who do it out of pride. This hadith teaches us to be humble and modest in our dress and behavior so we can be accepted by Allah on the Day of Judgment. We should also remember to be kind to others when they make mistakes or ask questions; instead of scolding them, we should try our best to help them understand what is right or wrong according to Islamic teachings.
