Dressing Modestly to Please Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) warned against dragging clothing out of vanity, as Allah will not look at the person on the Day of Resurrection.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "The Messenger of Allah SAW said: 'Al-Isbal may apply to the Izar, the Qamis and the turban. Whoever drags any one of these out of vanity, Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Dress modestly in order to please Allah and gain His favor .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Ibn 'Umar states that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) warned against dragging clothing out of vanity. He said that al-Isbal may apply to the Izar, which is a lower garment worn around the waist and legs; a Qamis which is a shirt or tunic; and a turban which is a head covering. If someone wears any one of these items out of vanity instead of modesty then Allah will not look at them on the Day of Resurrection. This hadith teaches us that we should dress modestly in order to please Allah and gain His favor. We should be careful not to wear our clothes for show or attention but rather for protection and modesty as prescribed by Islam.
