The hadith narrated by 'Aishah states that the punishment for theft should not be cutting off the thief's hand unless the stolen item is worth at least one-third of a Dinar or half of a Dinar. This hadith teaches us that justice must be served and it also serves as an example to show how merciful and compassionate Prophet Muhammad was towards criminals.
