QUICK LESSONS:
Abide by justice & fairness; Avoid theft at all costs
EXPLANATIONS:
According to this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) cut off the hand of a thief who stole one quarter of a Dinar. This punishment is known as ‘Uquba in Islamic law and it serves as an example to deter people from committing theft. It is important to note that this punishment was only applicable during the time of the Prophet Muhammad and it does not apply today. However, it still serves as an important reminder that stealing is wrong and should be avoided at all costs. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about justice and fairness; even though the thief only stole one quarter of a Dinar, he was still punished accordingly for his crime.
