This hadith is about the punishment for theft according to Islamic teachings. It was narrated from Safwan bin Umayyah that a man stole his Burdah, so he brought him before the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ ordered that his hand be cut off as punishment for stealing. The man offered to let him have it instead of cutting off his hand, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said “O Abu Wahb! Why didn't you do that before you brought him to me?” and still had the man's hand cut off as punishment. This hadith teaches us that stealing is not tolerated in Islam and there are consequences for those who commit this crime.
