Sunan an-Nasai 4691 (Book 44, Hadith 243) #19224
Repaying Debts Promptly

SUMMARY: A rich man should not take a long time to repay a debt and should accept referrals to help repay debts.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Wrongdoing is when a rich man takes a long time to repay a debt, and if one of you is referred to a rich man (to help repay debt), he should accept that referral"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Accept referrals when seeking assistance in repayment; Pay back any money owed quickly; Use resources responsibly; Be responsible with finances; Help others repay their debts if able.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of repaying debts promptly. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that if someone is referred to a rich person for help in repaying their debt, they should accept the referral. He also taught that it is wrong for a rich person to take too long in repaying their own debts. This hadith teaches us that we must be responsible with our finances and pay back any money we owe as soon as possible, even if it means asking for help from those who are more fortunate than us. It also teaches us that those who are wealthy have an obligation to use their resources responsibly and pay back any money they owe quickly.
