EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad taught that there are four major sins in Islam which are associating others with Allah, disobeying parents, killing a soul and swearing a false oath knowingly. Associating others with Allah is known as shirk in Arabic and it means to give something or someone the same status as God or to worship something other than God. Disobeying parents is known as nushuz in Arabic and it means not listening to your parents when they tell you what is right or wrong. Killing a soul is known as qatl al-nafs in Arabic and it means taking someone’s life without any valid reason according to Islamic law. Swearing a false oath knowingly is known as yameen ghamoos in Arabic and it means lying on purpose while taking an oath about something important such as testifying in court or making an agreement between two people. All of these actions are considered major sins according to Islam because they go against the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah which Muslims must follow if they want to be successful both here on Earth and also after death when we will be judged by God for our actions during our lifetime.
