Warning Against Major Sins

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) warned against four major sins: associating partners with Allah, disobeying one's parents, murder and false speech.

It was narrated that 'Ubaidullah bin Abi Bakr said: "I heard Anas say: 'The Messenger of Allah SAW said: The major sins are: Associating others with Allah (Shirk), disobeying one's parents, killing a soul (murder) and speaking falsely'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your elders/parents; Obey them; Be honest in your words and deeds ; Avoid shirk at all costs ; Do not take away anyone's life without permission .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned against four major sins that are considered to be the most serious of all sins. These include associating partners with Allah, disobeying one’s parents, murder and false speech. Associating partners with Allah is known as shirk in Arabic which means to give something or someone the same status as God or to worship something other than God. Disobeying one’s parents is a sin because it goes against the teachings of Islam which emphasize respect for elders and obedience towards them. Murder is forbidden in Islam because it takes away someone’s life without their permission which only belongs to God alone. Lastly, speaking falsely means lying or deceiving people by saying things that are not true or accurate. All these sins are considered major because they have serious consequences both in this world and the hereafter if not repented from sincerely before death comes upon us all.
