The Likeness of Taking Back Gifts

SUMMARY: Taking back a gift is similar to a dog eating its own vomit.

'Abdullah bin 'Abbas said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'The likeness of the one who takes back his gift, is that of a dog which goes back to its vomit and eats it'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Give generously without expecting anything in return; think twice before taking something away from someone else after giving it to them in the first place; show respect for others' possessions; be kind when giving gifts.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the comparison between taking back a gift and the behavior of a dog. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that the one who takes back his gift is like a dog which goes back to its vomit and eats it. This means that taking back gifts is not something desirable or honorable; it's an act that should be avoided as much as possible. It's important to remember that when we give someone something, we should do so with an open heart and without expecting anything in return. We should also be aware of our actions and think twice before taking something away from someone else after giving it to them in the first place. Giving gifts can bring joy and happiness into people's lives, but if we take them away again then this joy will quickly turn into sadness or disappointment.
