Fairness and Equality in Parenting

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) advised Bashir to be fair and equal in his treatment of his children.

It was narrated from Bashir that he gave his son a slave as a present, then he came to the Prophet and he wanted the Prophet to bear witness to that. He said: "Have you given a similar present to all of your children?" He said: "No". He said: "Then take (your present) back".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of fairness and equality when it comes to parenting. It was narrated from Bashir that he gave his son a slave as a present, then he came to the Prophet and he wanted the Prophet to bear witness to that. The Prophet asked him if he had given a similar present to all of his children, which Bashir answered no. The Prophet then told him to take back the gift as it was not fair or equal for one child to receive something that none of the other children received. This hadith teaches us that parents should treat their children equally and fairly, so they do not feel neglected or left out by their siblings or parents. Parents should also strive for justice when dealing with their children, so they can learn important values such as fairness and equality from an early age.
