Fairness in Giving Gifts

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) taught that it is important to be fair and equitable when giving gifts.

It was narrated from Hisham bin 'Urwah, from his father, that Bashir came to the Prophet and said: "O Prophet of Allah, I have given An-Nu'man a present". He said: "Have you given something to his brothers?" He said: "No". He said: "Then take it back".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous while giving gifts , Treat everyone equally while giving gifts .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of fairness and equality when giving gifts. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked by Bashir if he had given a gift to An-Nu'man's brothers as well, and the Prophet ﷺ instructed him to take it back if he hadn't. This shows us that we should not give gifts only to certain people or groups of people, but rather we should make sure that everyone is treated equally and fairly. We should also remember that Allah loves those who are just and fair in their dealings with others.

This hadith also teaches us about generosity; even though Bashir was asked to take back his gift, this does not mean that we should not give gifts at all! Rather, it means that we must be mindful of how our actions affect others around us so as not to cause any harm or hurt feelings due to unfairness or inequality.
