Bearing Witness to Gifts

SUMMARY: The Prophet did not want to bear witness to a present given by An-Nu'man bin Bashir's father.

It was narrated from An-Nu'man bin Bashir that his father gave him a present, and his mother said: "Ask the Prophet to bear witness to what you have given to my son". So he came to the Prophet and told him about that, and the Prophet did not want to bear witness to it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your parents' advice even if it seems strange at first glance; Give gifts only when permissible in Islam; Make sure any gift you give has been witnessed by someone who can testify its authenticity if needed in future; Be honest in your dealings with others.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of bearing witness when giving gifts. An-Nu'man bin Bashir's father gave him a present and his mother asked him to ask the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to bear witness. However, the Prophet ﷺ refused and did not want to bear witness. This teaches us that it is important for us as Muslims to be honest in our dealings with others and that we should only give gifts if we are sure that it is something permissible in Islam. We should also make sure that any gift we give has been witnessed by someone who can testify its authenticity if needed in the future. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about respecting our parents and following their advice even if it may seem strange at first glance.
