This hadith is about the importance of bearing witness when giving gifts. An-Nu'man bin Bashir's father gave him a present and his mother asked him to ask the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to bear witness. However, the Prophet ﷺ refused and did not want to bear witness. This teaches us that it is important for us as Muslims to be honest in our dealings with others and that we should only give gifts if we are sure that it is something permissible in Islam.
