QUICK LESSONS:
Show mercy towards those who are in need; take practicality into account when making rulings; be compassionate with your decisions/rulings/actions etc..

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of a concession granted by the Prophet to women whose husbands have passed away. It is narrated from Hafsah, from Umm 'Atiyyah, from the Prophet that he allowed these women to use two substances - Qust and Azfar - when purifying themselves after their menses. This means that they are not required to perform Ghusl or full body ablution in order for their purification process to be complete; rather they can just use these two substances as an alternative form of purification. This concession was given out of mercy towards these widowed women who may find it difficult or inconvenient to perform Ghusl due to various reasons such as lack of access or resources. Thus this hadith teaches us about the importance of being merciful towards those who are in need and also highlights how Islam is a religion which takes into account practicality in its rulings.
