QUICK LESSONS:
Agree on an appropriate amount for mahr before getting married

EXPLANATIONS:
During the time of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), it was narrated by Abu Hurairah that the dowry was set at ten Awaq. Mahr is a mandatory payment given by a groom to his bride upon marriage and is usually money or possessions. In this hadith, it is mentioned that during the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), one awaq was equal to approximately five hundred dirhams which would be equivalent to about $135 today. This hadith teaches us about how important it is for couples to agree on an appropriate amount for their mahr before getting married as well as how generous and kind-hearted our beloved prophet was towards his people.
