Sahih al-Bukhari 1855 (Book 28, Hadith 35) #1778
Performing Hajj on Behalf of an Elderly Person

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) allowed a woman to perform Hajj on behalf of her elderly father.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas (ra): Al Fadl was riding behind the Prophet and a woman from the tribe of Khath'am came up. Al Fadl started looking at her and she looked at him. The Prophet turned Al-Fadl's face to the other side. She said, "My father has come under Allah's obligation of performing Hajj but he is very old man and cannot sit properly on his Rahila (mount). Shall I perform Hajj on his behalf ? The Prophet replied affirmative. That happened during Hajjat-ul-Wada' of the Prophet .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's permission for a woman from the tribe of Khath'am to perform Hajj on behalf of her elderly father. The Prophet Muhammad was riding with Al Fadl when they encountered this woman who asked if she could perform the pilgrimage for her father since he was too old and unable to do it himself. The Prophet Muhammad gave his approval and allowed her to do so. This hadith teaches us that we should be considerate and compassionate towards those who are elderly or unable to fulfill their obligations due to age or physical limitations. We should help them in any way we can so that they can still fulfill their religious duties without having to worry about being able to do it themselves. It also shows us that even though our parents may be old, we should still respect them and take care of them as best as we can.
