The Importance of Avoiding Fasting on Days of Doubt

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of avoiding fasting on days of doubt and following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

It was narrated that Silah said: "We were with 'Ammar and a roast sheep was brought and he said: 'Eat'. One of the people turned away and said: 'I am fasting 'Ammar said: Whoever fasts on the day concerning which there is doubt, has disobeyed Abu Al-Qasim"'. '
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، عَنْ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ صِلَةَ، قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ عَمَّارٍ فَأُتِيَ بِشَاةٍ مَصْلِيَّةٍ فَقَالَ كُلُوا ‏.‏ فَتَنَحَّى بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ قَالَ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ عَمَّارٌ مَنْ صَامَ الْيَوْمَ الَّذِي يُشَكُّ فِيهِ فَقَدْ عَصَى أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Silah, who was with 'Ammar when a roast sheep was brought. One person said they were fasting, to which 'Ammar replied that whoever fasts on a day concerning which there is doubt has disobeyed Abu Al-Qasim, meaning Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This hadith emphasizes the importance of avoiding fasting on days where there is doubt and instead following the teachings and commands given by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It also teaches us to be obedient to Allah's Messenger ﷺ in all matters related to our faith.
