Mourning Etiquette According to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) teaching that it is not permissible to shave one's head, rend one's garments or raise one's voice in lamentation upon the death of a loved one.

It was narrated from Abu Sakhrah, that 'Abdur-Rahman bin Yazid and Abu Burdah said: "When Abu Musa was close to death, his wife started to scream". They said: "He woke up and said: 'Did I not tell you that I am free from what the Messenger of Allah is free?" They said: "He used to narrate that the Messenger of Allah said: 'I am free from the one who shaves his head, rends his garments or raises his voice in lamentation"'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about mourning etiquette according to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It was narrated from Abu Sakhrah, that 'Abdur-Rahman bin Yazid and Abu Burdah said when Abu Musa was close to death, his wife started to scream. They said he woke up and said "Did I not tell you that I am free from what the Messenger of Allah is free?" He used to narrate that the Messenger of Allah said "I am free from the one who shaves his head, rends his garments or raises his voice in lamentation". This hadith teaches us that it is not permissible for Muslims to shave their heads, tear their clothes or raise their voices in grief upon hearing news of a loved ones passing away. Instead we should be patient and seek comfort through prayer as this will bring us closer to God Almighty. We should also remember our deceased loved ones with fondness by remembering all the good times we shared with them instead of grieving excessively over their loss.
