Sunan an-Nasai 1563 (Book 19, Hadith 8) #16174
Sacrifice and Prayer on An-Nahr Day

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that the first thing to do on the day of An-Nahr is to pray, then offer a sacrifice. Abu Burdah bin Niyar was allowed to slaughter his sacrifice before prayer, but it would not be sufficient for anyone else after him.

Al-Bara' bin 'Azib narrated to us by one of the pillars of the masjid: "The Prophet delivered a Khutbah on the day of An-Nahr and said: 'The first thing we start with on this day of ours is the prayer, then we offer sacrifice. Whoever does that, he has followed our sunnah, but whoever slaughtered (his sacrifice) before the (prayer), that is just meat that he gave to his family. Abu Burdah bin Niyar had slaughtered his sacrifice and he said: 'O Messenger of Allah , I have a Jadha'ah that is better than a Musinnah'. He said: 'Slaughter it (as a sacrifice), but that will not be sufficient for anyone else (as a sacrifice) after you'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Islamic traditions & teachings; Put prayer first in life; Do not deprive others from what they are entitled too .

EXPLANATIONS:
On the day of An-Nahr, also known as Eid al Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice, Muslims are encouraged to start with prayer and then offer a sacrifice. This hadith explains that if someone slaughters their animal before praying, it will not be accepted as a valid sacrifice for anyone else after them. This teaches us that prayer should come first in our lives and should always take precedence over other activities. It also shows us how important it is to follow Islamic traditions and teachings in order to gain Allah's blessings. Furthermore, this hadith reminds us of our responsibility towards others by showing us how we should not deprive them from something they are entitled too just because we want something for ourselves first.
