The Promise of Al-Kawthar

SUMMARY: Allah has promised Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) a river in Paradise, and that his Ummah will be judged according to their deeds after the Prophet's death.

It was narrated that Anas in Malik said: "One day when he-the Prophet - was still among us, he took a nap, then he raised his head, smiling. We said to him: 'Why are you smiling, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Just now this Surah was revealed to me: In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Verily, We have granted you (O Muhammad) Al-Kawthar. Therefore turn in prayer to your Lord and sacrifice (to Him only). For he who hates you, he will be cut off'. Then he said: 'Do you know what Al-Kawthar is?' We said: 'Allah and His Messenger know best'. He said: 'It is a river that my Lord has promised me in Paradise. Its vessels are more than the number of the stars. My Ummah will come to me, then a man among them will be pulled away and I will say: "O Lord, he is one of my Ummah" and He will say to me: 'You do not know what he did after you were gone".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the promise of Allah to His beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. In this hadith, it is narrated that one day when the Prophet was among them, he took a nap and then woke up smiling. When asked why he was smiling, he said that Allah had just revealed to him Surah Al-Kawthar which contains a promise from Allah for His Messenger. He then explained what Al-Kawthar is; it is a river in Paradise with vessels more than the number of stars in the sky. The Prophet also mentioned that his Ummah will come to him on Judgement Day and some people will be pulled away from him because they did not do good deeds after his death. This hadith teaches us about how important it is for us as Muslims to strive for righteousness even after our beloved prophet has passed away so we can enter paradise with him on Judgement Day. It also reminds us of how much mercy and love Allah has for His Messenger by granting Him such an amazing gift as Al-Kawthar in paradise.
