The Prescribed Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that when the call to prayer is made, only the prescribed prayer should be performed.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet said: "When the Iqamah for prayer is said, there is no prayer except the prescribed prayer".
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ وَرْقَاءَ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ إِذَا أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَلاَ صَلاَةَ إِلاَّ الْمَكْتُوبَةُ

This hadith teaches us that when the call to prayer is made, we must perform only the prescribed prayer. This means that we should not perform any other type of worship or activity during this time. We must focus on performing our prayers in a proper and respectful manner as it is an obligation upon us as Muslims. We must also remember to be mindful of our actions and words during this time so that we can reap its full benefits.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us through this hadith that it is important for us to take our prayers seriously and make sure they are done properly and with respect. He also reminded us of our obligations as Muslims by emphasizing the importance of fulfilling them in order to gain Allah’s blessings and mercy.
