Eating and Drinking Until Adhan

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) advised people to eat and drink until Bilal calls the Adhan at night, as there is not much time between Bilal's call and Ibn Umm Maktum's call.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) said: 'Bilal calls the Adhan during the night, so eat and drink until Ibn Umm Maktum calls the Adhan". She said: "And there was no more between than the time it takes for one to come down and the other to go up".

This hadith teaches us that we should make use of our time wisely by eating or drinking during the short period of time before prayer so that we can perform it with a full stomach without feeling hungry or thirsty during prayer. It also teaches us to be mindful of our actions in order to be able to perform religious duties properly without any distractions or disturbances from hunger or thirst. Furthermore, this hadith encourages us to take advantage of every moment in life by making use of our time efficiently instead of wasting it away on unnecessary activities which do not benefit us spiritually or physically in any way whatsoever.
