Sunan an-Nasai 457 (Book 5, Hadith 10) #15065
Shortening Prayers While Travelling

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that when travelling, it is permissible to shorten the prayer from four rak'ahs to two rak'ahs.

It was narrated that Umayyah bin 'Abdullah bin Khalid bin Asid said to Ibn 'Umar: "How can the Salah be shortened as Allah says: There is no sin on you if you shorten As-Salah (the prayer) if you are in fear?" 1 Ibn 'Umar said: "O son of my brother! The Messenger of Allah came to us when we had gone astray and he taught us. One of the things that he taught us was that Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has commanded us to pray two Rak'ahs when traveling". 1 An-Nisa' 4:101.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow teachings of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) , Pray two Rak’ahs when traveling .
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that when travelling, it is permissible for Muslims to shorten their prayers from four rak'ahs to two rak'ahs. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this lesson to his companions who were previously unaware of this ruling. Allah mentions in the Quran in (4:101) Surah An-Nisa verse 101 that there is no sin on a person if they shorten their prayer while travelling. This ruling applies only when one is travelling and not at any other time as the full prayer must be performed at all other times. It teaches us that Allah has made things easy for us and has given us permission to make our lives easier by shortening our prayers while we are on a journey so we can focus more on our travels without having too much of an interruption in between them due to long prayers.
