Prayer Requirements in Different Situations

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ enjoined four Rak'ahs of prayer while resident, two while traveling, and one during times of fear.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "The Salah was enjoined on the lips of the Prophet , four Rak'ahs while resident, and two while traveling, and one Rak'ah during times of fear".
أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ الأَخْنَسِ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ فُرِضَتِ الصَّلاَةُ عَلَى لِسَانِ النَّبِيِّ فِي الْحَضَرِ أَرْبَعًا وَفِي السَّفَرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَفِي الْخَوْفِ رَكْعَةً

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the requirements for prayer depending on the situation a person is in. According to this hadith, when a person is staying in one place they must pray four rak'ahs. When they are travelling they must pray two rak'ahs and if there is fear or danger present then only one rak'ah needs to be prayed. This hadith teaches us that we should always be mindful of our religious obligations no matter what situation we are in and that Allah will reward us for our faithfulness even if it's just one prayer.
