Purifying Ourselves from Sins

SUMMARY: This hadith is about asking Allah to purify us from sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt.

It was narrated that Ibn Abi Awfa said: "The Prophet used to say: 'Allahumma tahhirni bith-thalji wal-barad wal-ma' al-barid, Allahumma tahhirni min adh-dhunub kama yutahhar ath-thawb al-abyad min ad-danas (O Allah, purify me with snow and hail and cold water, O Allah, purify me of sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt)".

QUICK LESSONS:
Ask for help in cleansing our hearts and souls from all kinds of sins through sincere repentance.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of purifying ourselves from sins. It was narrated by Ibn Abi Awfa that the Prophet used to say “O Allah, purify me with snow and hail and cold water; O Allah, purify me of sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt”. The Prophet was teaching us to ask Allah for help in cleansing our hearts and souls from all kinds of sins. Just like how a white garment can be washed clean with water and detergent so too can we be purified if we sincerely ask for it. We must remember that only through sincere repentance can we truly cleanse ourselves from our wrongdoings and become closer to God.
