Compassion for the Deceased

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed compassion and mercy to the deceased by placing his saliva in their mouth and shrouding them in his own shirt.

Jabir reported Allah's Apostle came to the grave of 'Abdullah b. Ubayy, brought him out from that, placed him on his knee and put his saliva in his mouth and shrouded him in his own shirt and Allah knows best.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari tells us of a beautiful act of kindness done by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). When he visited the grave of 'Abdullah b. Ubayy, he brought him out from that and placed him on his knee. He then put his saliva in his mouth as a sign of mercy and compassion for the deceased. He also shrouded him with his own shirt as an act of respect for the dead person. This hadith teaches us to show kindness even after death has taken place; it is important to remember that we should treat all people with respect regardless if they are alive or not. It also shows us how much importance Islam places on showing mercy towards others; even those who have passed away deserve our love and care.
