Sahih Muslim 2772 (Book 51, Hadith 1) #14088
Forgiveness in the Face of Unrepentance

SUMMARY: This hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forgave those who had wronged him and his companions, even though they were not repentant.

Zaid b. Arqam reported: We set out on a journey along with Allah's Messenger in which we faced many hardships'.Abdullah b. Ubayy said to his friends: Do not give what you have in your possession to those who are with Allah's Messenger until they desert him. Zubair said: That is the reciting of that person who recited as min haulahu (from around him) and the other reciting is man haulahia (who are around him). And in this case when we would return to Medina the honourable would drive out the meaner therefrom (LXIV. 8). I came to Allah's Apostle and informed him about that and he sent someone to 'Abdullah b. Ubayy and he asked him whether he had said that or not. He took an oath to the fact that he had not done that and told that it was Zaid who had stated a lie to Allah's Messenger . Zaid said: I was much perturbed because of this until this verse was revealed attesting my truth:" When the hypocrites come" (LXIII. 1). Allah's Apostle then called them in order to seek forgiveness for them, but they turned away their heads as if they were hooks of wood fixed in the wall (LXIII. 4), and they were in fact apparently good-looking persons.

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek out forgiveness for others even if they don't repent firstly .
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith recounts a journey taken by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions, during which they faced many hardships. During this journey, Abdullah b. Ubayy suggested to his friends that they should not give what they have in their possession to those who are with Allah's Messenger until they desert him. Zubair then recited two different versions of a verse from the Quran - min haulahu and man haulahia - which translates to “from around him” and “who are around him” respectively. When the group returned to Medina, Zaid informed the Prophet about what happened on their journey, including Abdullah's suggestion. The Prophet sent someone to Abdullah b Ubayy asking if he said that or not; he took an oath that he did not do so but instead blamed it on Zaid for lying to Allah's Messenger. However, soon after this incident a verse was revealed attesting Zaid's truthfulness - when the hypocrites come - and despite them being unrepentant for their actions, Allah's Apostle called them in order to seek forgiveness for them anyway.

This hadith teaches us an important lesson about forgiveness; even when people wrong us or our loved ones we should still forgive them as much as possible because it is only through forgiveness that we can truly heal from any hurt or pain caused by others' actions towards us or our loved ones. It also shows us how powerful faith can be; despite facing many hardships on their journey together with Allah's Messenger, his companions still remained loyal and faithful towards him throughout it all - something which ultimately led to a beautiful outcome of forgiveness being granted even without repentance from those who wronged them firstly being sought out firstly .
