EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of mentioning Allah’s name before eating, as well as eating with one’s right hand. It was narrated by 'Umar b. Abu Salama, who was under the care of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ at the time when he heard this advice from him. The Prophet ﷺ wanted to instill good manners in his young companion by teaching him to remember God before partaking in any activity, even something as mundane as eating a meal. He also taught him to use his right hand for this purpose, which is a sign of respect and politeness in many cultures around the world today. By following these instructions, we can show our gratitude towards God for providing us with sustenance and demonstrate proper etiquette while dining with others or alone.
