Combining 'Umra and Hajj - A Special Concession

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the special concession given to the Prophet's (PBUH) companions to combine 'Umra and Hajj, which was not applicable for others.

'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi al-Sha'tha' reported: I came to Ibrahim al-Nakha'I and Ibrahim Taimi and said: I intend to combine 'Umra and Hajj this year, whereupon Ibrahim al-Nakha'i said: But your father did not make such intention. Ibrahim narrated on the authority of, his father that he passed by Abu Dharr (Allah be pleased with him) at Rabdha, and made a mention of that, whereupon he said: It was a special concession for us and not for you.
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ بَيَانٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ، قَالَ أَتَيْتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّخَعِيَّ وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيَّ فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي أَهُمُّ أَنْ أَجْمَعَ الْعُمْرَةَ وَالْحَجَّ الْعَامَ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ النَّخَعِيُّ لَكِنْ أَبُوكَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِيَهُمَّ بِذَلِكَ ‏.‏ قَالَ قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ بَيَانٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ مَرَّ بِأَبِي ذَرٍّ - رضى الله عنه - بِالرَّبَذَةِ فَذَكَرَ لَهُ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا كَانَتْ لَنَا خَاصَّةً دُونَكُمْ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about a special concession given to the companions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that allowed them to combine their 'Umra and Hajj in one year. It is narrated by Abd al-Rahman b. Abi al-Sha'tha', who heard it from Ibrahim al-Nakha'i and Ibrahim Taimi, who in turn heard it from Abu Dharr, one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . The main idea behind this hadith is that Allah has granted certain privileges to His beloved people, which are not applicable for everyone else. It teaches us that we should be grateful for all our blessings as they are only due to Allah’s mercy upon us. We should also remember that we must always strive hard in order to gain Allah’s pleasure by doing good deeds so as to be eligible for such blessings in life hereafter too!
