The Experience of Mut'a by Sa'd b. Abu Waqqas

SUMMARY: Sa'd b. Abu Waqqas (Allah be pleased with him) was asked about Mut'a and he shared his experience of it when he was an unbeliever living in Mecca.

Ghunaim b. Qais said: I asked Sa'd b. Abu Waqqas (Allah be pleased with him) about Mut'a, whereupon he said: We did that, and it was the day when he was an unbeliever living in (one of the) houses of Mecca.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect others regardless of their beliefs; Be open-minded; Learn from experiences; Accept people for who they are; Don't judge people based on their beliefs or lack thereof .

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, Ghunaim b. Qais asked Sa'd b. Abu Waqqas about the practice of Mut’a, which is a type of marriage that is temporary and can last for a few days or weeks depending on the agreement between the two parties involved in it. Sa’d then shared his experience with this practice when he was an unbeliever living in one of the houses in Mecca before accepting Islam as his religion. This hadith shows us that even though someone may not believe in Islam, they can still have experiences that are related to Islamic practices such as Mut’a marriage and these experiences can be beneficial to them later on when they accept Islam as their religion and learn more about its teachings and values. It also teaches us that we should never judge someone based on their beliefs or lack thereof because everyone has something valuable to offer regardless of what they believe or don't believe in at any given time period in their life journey.
