Permissibility of Temporary Marriage and Tamattu' in Hajj

SUMMARY: Temporary marriage and Tamattu' in Hajj were permissible only for the Prophet's companions.

Abu Dharr (Allah be pleased with him) said: Two are the Mut'as which were not permissible but only for us, i. e. temporary marriage with women and Tamattu' in Hajj.
وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ زُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ رضى الله عنه لاَ تَصْلُحُ الْمُتْعَتَانِ إِلاَّ لَنَا خَاصَّةً ‏.‏ يَعْنِي مُتْعَةَ النِّسَاءِ وَمُتْعَةَ الْحَجِّ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the permissibility of two practices that were only allowed to the Prophet's companions. The first practice is temporary marriage, also known as Mut’a. This type of marriage was a contract between two people that would last for a certain amount of time and then end without any divorce proceedings or other legalities. The second practice is called Tamattu’ which was related to performing the pilgrimage to Mecca, known as Hajj. During this pilgrimage, it was permissible for people to perform certain rituals that would not be allowed during other times of year. Both these practices were only allowed to those who followed the teachings of Prophet Muhammad and his companions at that time.

The values taught by this hadith are obedience towards Allah's commands, following Islamic laws and regulations, respecting religious rituals such as hajj etc., understanding one's responsibilities towards their faith etc..
