Syria-Türkiye Earthquake: Rescue and Lifesaving Humanitarian Operations

Exacerbating the deadly situation in Syria and Turkey are brutal wintry conditions, geopolitics, and a decade-old civil war in Syria.

For more on the "hugely complex relief effort," FRANCE 24 is joined by Xavier Castellanos Mosquera, Under Secretary General for National Society Development and Operations Coordination at the IFRC/International Red Cross. "This earthquake in such weather conditions increases significantly the vulnerability," he explains. "And here the first-aid response, the health-care services, the provision of water and sanitation, the provision of food and winterisation kits are essential in order to guarantee the life of the people who are struggling with the earthquake."
